Frequently Asked Questions
Does Olive Hill Sell Feeder Pigs, too?
:: :: ::
Registration with the AGHA
Every breeding stock piglet from Olive Hill comes with AGHA registration included. We also encourage all our buyers become AGHA members and provide the paperwork to that end in our Welcome Packet for every new American Guinea Hog Owner.
Health Certification for Out of State Purchases
Health certificates are required for any pigs crossing state lines*. The examination will be performed by our certified livestock veterinarian and is included in the purchase price for any piglets who leave our farm prior to 8 weeks of age.
For older pigs and hogs the health certificate is the responsibility of the buyer and can be obtained at the cost of $26 for one hog or $15 each for groups of two or more. We are happy to make arrangements and provide directions from our farm to our veterinarian’s office for any buyers who retrieve their pigs in person. We can also transport the pigs to the veterinarian for those that will be shipped, but for pigs shipped at an age older than 8 weeks there will be a $25 labor charge for that service.
* Please note that some states have additional requirements beyond a basic health certificate. These tests can be performed during the health examination but their additional cost will be the responsibility of the buyer regardless of the age of the pig.
Needle Teeth and Tail Docking
Because we engage in management practices that render these actions unnecessary we do not perform the removal of needle teeth or the docking of tails on any piglets and will not accommodate requests to obtain these services from an outside party.
Travel Accommodations for Shipped Pigs
Pigs can be shipped to their new home by air on one of the major airline carriers. The cost for such shipping is variable depending on the final destination but generally falls in the range of $300 to $500. The pigs will require a crate for shipping, the cost of the crate is the responsibility of the buyer, since size and number of the pigs being shipped dictates the size and type of the crate(s) needed that price will be quoted at the time travel arrangements are made. Generally we can find the crates for $40 or less locally and always make it a priority to shop frugally with our buyers in mind. We charge a flat $50 surcharge for our labor and fuel to pack and deliver the pigs to our airport all other charges will reflect the market price of the transportation itself. Cost of shipping will be due at the same time as the 50% Deposit.
Reserving Your Breeding Stock
We offer litters of pigs in both spring and fall and encourage buyers to reserve their breeding stock as early as possible to ensure the best position on our wait list.
All we require to make a reservation is your name, contact information and the number and sex of pigs you’d like out of our next litter. When our litters are born we contact the people on our wait list in the order they have contacted us. You will then have two weeks (14 calendar days) from the date we contact you about the birth of the pigs to make a deposit on those pigs before we move on to others further down the list.
Making a Deposit, Payment Terms and Contractual Timeline
Once you have been contacted from our wait list (see: Making a Reservation) you will have two weeks (14 calendar days) from the date of our contact to make a 50% non-refundable deposit to hold your pigs. This deposit will hold the pigs until they are 8 weeks of age at which point they will either need to be shipped or picked up on-farm. If pigs are not retrieved by 8 weeks of age and you have not made arrangements with us prior to that time we reserve the right to offer those pigs for sale to other wait list clients or the open market without further notification to you. Any deposit and/or fees already paid by the buyer at that time will be retained.
We accept cash, major credit and paypal payments.

“If only they came with a manual…” the famous words of new livestock owners — and parents — the world over. And now, from Olive Hill, they do. Every new owner of American Guinea Hogs will leave our farm with an informational packet, an owner’s manual of sorts, to help them get started with their new pigs. From feed and housing to training, health and suggested reading an ever-evolving compilation of the best of our best is there. Plus, every pig that leaves our property — young or old — comes with Lifetime+ technical support. Have a question? Problem? Just need to talk to another AGH person to hash out an idea? Call or email us anytime!

Does Olive Hill Sell Feeder Pigs, too?
At this time we do not offer feeder pigs for sale on a regular basis. We do however raise feeder pigs here, on our farm, from each litter and offer a hog share program to help curb costs and give families the opportunity to see their meat grown from farrow to table without the need for castration. Our AGH Pork Page has more information on both of those options.
